James Devlin,[1] better known by his surname Devlin, is an English rap artist from Dagenham, England and is part of the 'OT Crew' with Dogzilla, Deeperman and Syer Bars.[2] Born in Dagenham, he has had top 40 records. Devlin is also a member of The Movement, consisting of himself, Wretch 32, Scorcher, Ghetts, Lightning, Mercston and DJ Unique.[3]

Career

Beginning

Devlin joined Dagenham grime entourage Outakers aka OT when he was just 15 and a half. His crew-mates included, Dagenham MC Dogzilla, Deeperman and manager of OT Recordings, Michael Carnegie. Devlin’s first ventures were onto pirate radio at Flava FM and began to establish him. He also played Sunday league football for Senrab F.C., famous for producing John Terry and Ledley King.

2010-2011: Bud, Sweat and Beers

His debut album, Bud, Sweat and Beers was released on dasi in 2010. The first single off the album was "Brainwashed", which was released on August 8, 2010 in the UK and debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number 31, and number 11 on the UK R&B Chart. The second single, "Runaway", was released on 24 October 2010, where it debuted at number 15, marking Devlin's most successful single to date. The single was succeeded by the release of the debut album, Bud, Sweat and Beers, which was released on 1 November 2010 and debuted at number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. A track from the album, entitled "London City", entered the UK chart at number 181 following strong digital downloads from the album.[4] The third single released from the album was "Let It Go" featuring British-producer Labrinth. The track, which was released on 31 January 2011,[5] charted at number 59 in the UK based on downloads alone. On 17 January 2011, Devlin joined Jessie J live to promote the UK version of "Price Tag". Devlin featured on Tinchy Stryders track Game Over with Giggs, Professer Green, Tinie Tempah, Example and Chipmunk.

2012-present: Second album

Devlin has stated via Twitter he has new music arriving for 2012 soon. He also confirmed via Twitter he has the name for his second album but it won't be revealed till later in 2012. [6][7]
